Educational standards in the kindergarten area

Several European models for language acquisition work with educational standards. Based on previous experience, this is also recommended for the kindergarten area. In particular, a precise formulation of standards for language proficiency for each transition from one to the next level of education has to be defined.

Concrete examples can be found within the concept of Baseler Sprachprofile, the description of the system of European schools and the Scottish model. All these works provide very good indications of future implementation in the kindergarten practice.

Further it seems important to transfer the thought of educational standards for language skills in kindergarten area also in the respective mother tongue of the child (children with a migrant background) – a thought not yet very often implemented in Europe’s kindergarten practice.

In general it may be assumed that exactly formulated Curriculum standards enriched by didactical suggestions will lead to an increase in quality of kindergarten’s educational opportunities.
